HÀ NỘI — Authorities in central Quảng Trị Province have initiated moves to build Quảng Trị Airport through a public-private-partnership (PPP).
The People’s Committee of Quảng Trị asked the Ministry of Transport (MoT) for permission to conduct a study and file a proposal for investment projects to build the airport through a cooperative agreement between the public and private sectors.
The chairman of the committee, Nguyễn Đức Chính, also wanted the MoT to allow the locality to update some tasks in the detailed planning dossier of Quảng Trị Airport, particularly the forecast of transport demand and divergent investment period in line with planning on the transportation and traffic development of Việt Nam’s aviation sector. These serve as the basis for the call for investors to participate in the project and determine the route and suitable time for investment in accordance with plans to operate Quảng Trị Airport after 2020.
Quảng Trị Province will allocate a part of its provincial budget, exploit its build and transfer form, and call for investors to participate in the establishment of the airport, Chính said.
According to Decision No. 236/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the adjustment of planning on air transport in the 2020-30 period, Quảng Trị is one of 28 domestic airports which will be put into operation between 2020 and 2030. The airport will span an area of 312ha.
Quảng Trị Airport is located in Gio Quang Commune, Gio Linh District, in a relatively untouched area of forest trees and without residential areas and cultivated fields.
The airport is about 93km from Đồng Hới National Highway 1 and 88km away from Phú Bài International Airport in Thừa Thiên - Huế Province. — VNS
